PLATO announces Calgary recruitment for IT training, enabling Indigenous participation in tech sector

CALGARY, AB (January 16, 2023): Recruitment is underway in Calgary for the Indigenous Software Tester Training Program being delivered by PLATO. The train-and-employ model offered by PLATO provides First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people the opportunity to build a career in the growing IT sector, while providing a meaningful path toward economic reconciliation for partners across corporate Canada.

PLATO’s training program provides five months of in-class training on the fundamentals of software testing, followed by a three-month paid internship of hands-on training with one of PLATO’s corporate partners. Following the eight months of training, successful graduates are guaranteed a full-time, well-paying job with PLATO.

Training will be hosted at PLATO’s Calgary delivery centre and begins on March 6, 2023. This is the third course that PLATO will deliver in the region, after successfully delivering classes in 2019 and 2022, from which Indigenous graduates started their careers in technology by supporting clients like Suncor and WestJet.

“Since expanding our train-and-employ model to Calgary in 2019, our team there continues to grow,” says PLATO CEO and Founder Keith McIntosh. “We’ve got great corporate partners and strong talent that support clients locally and across the country. Graduates from our first two classes are advancing their careers and have really become role models for other Indigenous people working in technology.”

Recognized by the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business, PLATO Testing is demonstrating the power of person-to-person reconciliation. Its mission to grow Indigenous participation in the technology sector has a profound impact on the people, families, and communities in and around the communities it calls home including Calgary, Regina, Victoria, Vancouver, Sault Ste. Marie, Toronto, Ottawa, and Fredericton.

Interested members of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities in the Calgary area can visit the PLATO website for more information about the training and to apply: www.platotech.com/training/calgary.
